Collection of Howe Island data began in August 2001. Data collection thus far has involved the measurement of thaw depths on the 10 x 10 meter square grid, mapping of vegetation, aerial photography, and installation of 50 meter transects (2) for measuring size/density of frost boils, as well as to aid in characterization of vegetation. Installation of heaveometers and soil/climatological data collection instrumentation will occur in Spring 2002.
