Web design
Design, build, and maintain web sites, using authoring and scripting languages, content creation tools, and digital media; update website. Confer with supervisor to prioritize needs, resolve conflicts, develop content criteria, and choose solutions. Identify problems uncovered by testing and customer feedback, and correct problems. Evaluate code for validity, proper structure, insure that website meets industry, American Disabilities Act, and University of Alaska standards and is compatible with browsers, devices, and operating systems. Maintain understanding of current web technologies or programming practices through continuing education and reading.
Develop and document MySQL database architecture. Demonstrate database technical functionality, such as performance, security and reliability. Develop and maintain archived procedures and queries for applications.
Graphic design
Create designs, concepts, and sample layouts based on knowledge of layout principles and esthetic design concepts. Confer with supervisor to discuss and determine layout design. Develop graphics and layouts for logos and Internet websites. Use computer software to generate new images. Maintain archive of images, photos, and previous work products. Updated/reformatted or developed new graphics for use in reports, PowerPoint presentations, posters. Design and produce newsletters and student recruitment materials. Develop small posters and flyers for classes and department functions.
Project Management
Develop website preparation timeline. Maintain close contact with supervisor to insure implementation of desired design/content. Meet frequently with supervisor and coworkers to resolve issues that conflict with good design.
