Map Information: This image shows the topography of the Arctic region, north of treeline. Elevation classes above 100 m portray altitudinal zonal transitions caused by adiabatic cooling at higher elevations (6 degrees C/1000m). The image was produced for the Circumpolar Arctic Vegetation Mapping Project (CAVM). Funding was provided by the U.S. National Science Foundation, grant number OPP-9732-076.

The map was created using data from the GTOPO30 (USGS, EROS Alaska Field Office) global digital elevation model (DEM). Elevation postings are at a horizontal spacing of 30 arc seconds (approximately 1 km).
